While studying to become a member of the NYC Chaplain Task force, Ovette lost her mother after being her sole caregiver for 33 years. Her church sponsored international excursions to distribute school supplies to families unable to obtain these on their own. It was then that she had the idea to make an effort to teach kids craft skills that could later offer them a path towards financial independence.
Named after her mother, the Ollie Group was met with a positive response and what started with 5 children has now more than 40 enrolled students getting empowered every day to build their own future.
